Real Betis vice-president addresses left-back’s future: “There is talk of Milan”

By Oliver Fisher -

The vice-president of Real Betis has addressed the rumours that the club are set to lose Juan Miranda, amid speculation that he has an agreement in place with AC Milan.

Milan were first linked with Miranda during the summer transfer window when an upgrade on Fode Ballo-Toure was sought for the deputy left-back position, though they were unable to get a deal done. Sky reported earlier today that the management still want to sign a player in that role.

Fabrizio Romano reported that negotiations continued and Milan have ‘reached an agreement’ with Miranda who will join the club in 2024. Personal terms have all been agreed, his contract will be valid until June 2028 and now what remains is to establish when he will arrive in January or June.

José Miguel López Catalàn, the vice-president of Real Betis, made some statements during the program ‘La Jugada’ on ‘Canal Sur’ and he was asked for the latest on Miranda’s situation, with his comments relayed by PianetaMilan.

“He is a player we love very much. Personally I fought for him to come to Betis. We thought this was his place. We had the great joy of that Copa del Rey. For his age, this is an important decision in his career,” he said.

“He’ll fulfil his contract with Betis. So far there have been offers for a renewal, but for some reason, sporting or economic, we have not been able to reach an agreement. It all obviously looks like he is an attractive player for other clubs.

“There is talk of Milan, Dortmund or other Spanish teams. Anything could happen. It may happen that we reach an agreement and hopefully he will renew for Betis for many years, or it may happen, of course, that he has a huge offer.

“With a salary double or triple what you have here it is right that you accept. We don’t know yet, really. Let’s say that the relationship with his family and with his agent is very good. It’s not a tense relationship.

“It’s not just the signing bonus, which can go to the player or the agent. It’s the salaries. Not having to pay bank transfers I was able to offer double or triple the contract. And Betis can’t compete there.”

  1. And still for several months we have been hearing that the deal was pretty much in the bag and that he would most likely join us in January…sigh

      1. Oh ok thanks flyingturtle so it was Romano who said it well then i will believe it as he is one of the few sources that i actually have any confidence in , had just squickly skimmed the article and missed that part 😀

  2. Yes Romano confirmed that the player agreed terms with AC Milan on salary. But that doesn’t mean that he is 100 percent going to be a Milan player. The player can still speak to other teams and agree to go to another club. He has leverage to demand more money from any other club.

    1. Josh that’s a good point as well I guess we will just have to wait and see but considering the vice presidents words it at the very minimum seems like he will see out his contract with them and not join in january. In the end though Romano is a credible source but who knows if the player in fact can be swayed or if we are just a useful bargaining chip.
