AC Milan are looking to tie Tijjani Reijnders down to a new contract very soon after his fantastic start to the season.
Since joining Milan last summer, Christian Pulisic is probably the only player to have been more consistent in their performances than Reijnders. In this time, the Dutchman’s role has fluctuated, but in recent weeks he has found some welcomed continuity.
Alongside Youssouf Fofana, he is given the licence to be at his best, and freedom to drive forward, whilst also being able to assist attacks from depth – unlocking his full skillset. For this reason, his value has skyrocketed, and the initial €20 million paid seems a bargain.
There is interest in the midfielder, and the club are aware of this. However, both Reijnders and the Diavolo are looking to renew his contract, with all parties happy about their current position.
As Fabrizio Romano stated on his X account, talks with the Dutch midfielder are ‘progressing’, and this is probably aided by the Rossoneri’s stance – they see him as a ‘key part’ of the current project, whilst also wanting to offer him a contract similar to the club’s other stars.
There are no time pressures due to his current deal expiring in 2028, but Milan want an extension sooner rather than later.
We must increase his salary
No matter what we offer him, top powerhouses in Europe will always be able to offer more Along With the prospect of actually competing with trophies.
Milan currently can not offer either. So Reijnders’ staying depends on Milan’s ambitions. 4mil/year without silverware can only work for so (not very) long.
Reijnders is a top talent and will eventually play for Europe’s Elite.
It is obviously OK for Milan to sell 1 star each year. Let’s remember how good our midfield was with Tonali Bennacer and Kessie.
Only Calhanoglu was disappointing but in contrary someone like Krunic was cheap and ok backup player.
Bottom line is, our transfer scout organisation eventually will always find good back up plan.
But, not so many clubs in future are going to easily unload 60 million plus for player, like Newcastle did for Tonali.
This is a dangerous spot. He knows what he could make elsewhere and they have surely made him aware. If he wants that, you gotta cash in or find a middle ground…or maybe it’s a short extension.
He doesn’t seem like the “all I want for Christmas is… MONEY!” -type of guy.
yes, i very much agree…but there is a limit as he is 25 and this will likely be the biggest contract of his career…if the figures floated to him sit around 8M….I think you have to start the convo above 50% of that at least and see where you can get…
He doesn’t seem like a money chaser to me. He’s a modest, down to earth lad who grew up in a wealthy family, since his dad was a pro footballer. He also said that he feels right at home here, with his first child being born here as well.
It will all come down to the club and ownership and if they’ll be able to resist potential high bids for him.
That was the case with Tonali. His agent said in an interview it took some effort but persuaded him this will benefit the club financially. It means they were persuaded by the management to accept the move.
Yeah, I think the club is pretty upfront in that they operate on a value basis, so financially, if a club offers a higher bid than where they value that player, they will take that offer. I do think that they likely value him upwards of 80M, so it ultimately comes down to whether teams are willing to match that, but I don’t think they are ever thinking about making someone unattainable…his value to the team is immense so I suspect his price would also have to be…
