Report: Bayern Munich ready to trigger €60m clause and beat Milan, Man Utd to defender

By Oliver Fisher -

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are ‘determined’ to win the race for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, according to a report.

Milan have been repeatedly linked with Upamecano over the last few months, and these rumours have been fuelled by speculation that Ralf Rangnick – the current Head of Football for Red Bull – could be joining as head coach and sporting director.

Calciomercato.com reported that the possible arrival of Rangnick could open up the potential for the move but there are two obstacles to overcome, one being the competition from other clubs and the other being that Upamecano has a €60m release clause built into his deal.

Sky Sports in the UK then stated earlier this week that both Manchester clubs are firmly in the race to land the France U21 international this summer.

According to the latest from Spanish outlet AS though – as cited by Calciomercato.com – it is in fact Leipzig’s title rivals Bayern Munich who appears to be the most serious competition.

The Bavarian side are apparently keen to trigger Upamecano’s release clause and secure themselves a long-term reinforcement for their rearguard.
