Report: Milan could move for Spurs, Barcelona duo or Arsenal man as Demiral alternative

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan could consider a number of alternatives to Merih Demiral in their search to sign a new centre-back, according to a report.

As we reported on Thursday, the Rossoneri are firmly in the market for a central defender after it was officially confirmed that Leo Duarte will be out until at least March.

An official club statement on Thursday evening confirmed that that Duarte underwent an operation at the Alfredson Tendon Clinic in Umeå to ‘treat a fracture to the calcaneus at the point where it meets the left achilles tendon’.

Merih Demiral continues to be the most heavily linked although he carries a hefty price tag, and Calciomercato.it claims that there are a number of alternatives who could come into fashion.

The report starts by stating that if Arsenal were to sign Demiral, then Shkodran Mustafi could become an option for Milan, as a player who offers experience and knows Italian football well.

There could be further opportunities in north London as both Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen have both not yet renewed with Spurs could leave in January, and probably not for a huge fee, but Jose Mourinho’s arrival may change things.

The situation surrounding two Barcelona players could also be monitored: both Samuel Umtiti and Jean-Clair Todibo are struggling for playing time, but the latter seems destined for Bayer Leverkusen, the report continues.

Dan-Axel Zagadou from Borussia Dortmund could be a potential option if younger profiles are preferred, Calciomercato adds, while Lucas Martinez Quarta of River Plate – who has been linked before – rounds off the list.
