Report: Napoli happy to pay €25m asking price to beat Milan to Arsenal star

By Oliver Fisher -

Napoli are ready to pay €25m in order to beat competition and land Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira in January, a report claims.

It was announced on Wednesday that Gennaro Gattuso would take over from Carlo Ancelotti, who was sacked as Napoli boss immediately after their Champions League win over Genk.

One area that Gattuso seems keen to strengthen is midfield, with La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira reporting that the first contacts have been made between Napoli and Franck Kessie’s representatives over the idea of a move.

According to Naples-based paper Il Mattino though – as cited by Football Italia – the Partenopei are on Lucas Torreira given the uncertainty both he and Arsenal are facing at the moment.

The newspaper claims that Napoli will ask the Gunners about a possible loan deal, but if they aren’t happy to do so then the Azzurri will pay the €25m asking price that Arsenal have set.

Despite this, no concrete move is expected to be made until the north London club appoint a new manager and the 23-year-old knows what his future is at the Emirates Stadium.

Recently, TMW claimed that Torreira is ‘unhappy’ Arsenal currently as he is being played out of position, with Milan interested again.

The same outlet added that the Uruguayan is becoming ‘more and more convinced’ by the idea of leaving north London in January, while his agent also refused to rule out a possible return to Serie A for his client.
