Repubblica: Rennes trip provided further clues regarding Zlatan’s ‘apprenticeship’ role

By Oliver Fisher -

Last night’s game in Rennes provided a further peek behind the curtain regarding what Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s role at AC Milan actually is, a report claims.

As La Repubblica (via PianetaMilan) recalls this morning, Ibrahimovic was appointed Senior Advisor of RedBird Capital by Gerry Cardinale late last year and he is slowly beginning to get a foothold in various different areas.

Yesterday he was the ‘cover man’ of sorts for the Rossoneri; the man who fronted the delegation that travelled with the team for the Europa League play-off second leg against Rennes, which ended 3-2 for the home team but 5-3 on aggregate to Milan.

Ibrahimovic is a manager in all respects and not just a consultant for RedBird, the paper writes, because yesterday the Swede participated in all the activities reserved for the directors.

The advisor role seems to just be an apprenticeship label because in Brittany Ibrahimovic was the one who reported for the UEFA lunch with the owner of the Ligue 1 club, along with Geoffrey Moncada.

CEO Giorgio Furlani, owner Gerry Cardinale and president Paolo Scaroni were all not present in France for the return leg of the Europa League play-off tie due to various commitments, so Ibra became the figurehead.
