Matteo Gabbia is one of the players that could leave AC Milan this summer, albeit most likely on a temporary basis. The youngster needs consistent playing time and Sampdoria have expressed their interest.
This past season, the centre-back made just ten appearances in total (all comps) but he did well when given the chance. Most notably, he played three games from start in January due to an injury crisis (vs. Roma, Venezia and Spezia).
According to La Repubblica (via Calciomercato.com), Sampdoria manager Marco Giampaolo has asked the management to look into Gabbia’s situation. He knows the player from his short stint at Milan and is keen on bringing him in.
Contacts have already been established between the clubs and the Genoa-based side could propose a loan, with an option to buy included. Milan believe a lot in the player and it remains to be seen if they will accept an option to buy, but a loan is indeed very likely.
