Repubblica: Surprise twist in Giroud’s future possible – what he has told the club

By Oliver Fisher -

A lot has been written about the future of Olivier Giroud over the past few weeks and more specifically about a future in the USA, but nothing has been decided yet.

According to what was reported by the newspaper La Repubblica (via PianetaMilan), a surprise scenario could open up for Giroud. The 37-year-old is certainly tempted to move to the MLS at the end of the season, but he has not yet made this choice.

The former Arsenal and Chelsea man is very close to Milan and he has communicated to the club that he will make his decision only at the end of the season.

Giroud got his name on the scoresheet during the 3-0 win over Lecce at San Siro on Saturday in what was his first goal for a month, and after the match he was asked by DAZN about his future beyond the current campaign.

“I don’t want to talk about my future. I see what has been reported in the press, I can say that there is nothing done. Today I’m a Milanista, an old Rossoneri heart. I’m very proud to play for this team. I want to finish in the best way possible, then we’ll see next year.”

    1. You mean hypothetical?
At some point he will need replacing whether it’s by his choice or ours and he’s closer to his final days a professional than earlier in his career

      1. Nah I mean metaphorical.

When I said I wanted a 40 goal a season striker I was taken literally (everyone around here thinks they can predict the future and assumed I could too).

Maybe hypothetical also works but I am speaking figuratively.

A bit like my Team Of Gary Neville’s!

        1. “everyone around here thinks they can predict the future and assumed I could too”

Again, acting superior to other people here, eh? 🙂

    2. Like a traction engine or maybe one of those belt machines that launches baseballs (the “moneyball” fanatics would would hava a field day with that).

We could buy both and loan one to Monza.

Maybe they are more similes though…

  1. We should allow Giroud go. He has done well.
If we keep him we won’t spend big on a top finisher which we need.

      1. This would be my preferred option. Giroud, Camarda (sparingly) Okafor and the new starter (David, Zirkzee, Seako…insert)

  2. Meh, I think it’s more than 80% certain he’ll go. He wants to be a starting striker for at least 50% of the games. Ibra was a stater with us till 40

Imo the only doubts would be if he excels for the remaining games, we get all the way to EL final, and most importantly the club agrees to keep him as starting striker next year and gets instead a talented young striker to rotate with Jovic.

    1. I don’t think what will happen. He can make a difference as an impact sub, he is about the best in the world with his head now. His experience and leadership will be credible too, especially with the youngsters

  3. There is somethimg in our club that every classy player thay joins, falls in love with our club. We should all be proud of that. Only unclassy players, or garbage like turkish kebab and maybe 1 or 2 more hated our club.

  4. This is supposed to be a twist? He has been saying this for months.. it’s the “journalist” who write everything else

    Click, click

    Bait, bait. Everyday

  5. It is time for him to ride off into the sunset!

He has been a good servant.
At this stage he is contributing less and less to overall play, while still getting a goal here and there.
A new younger striker would give us an extra man in build up, it’s time to evolve.

    Grazie Oli, Ciao

    1. Agree completely with SJF. Giroud has done his best – scored many goals – missed the penalty against dortmund that led to our exit from champions league – but unfortunately it is now time to say goodbye ……

    2. I disagree as I would try to persuade Giroud taking another year with us but as the second choice after our new aquisition. That would greatly soften the arrival of the new player as we could still rely on giroud if the new player doesnt starts off perfectly,
Also a new marquee signing + grioud+jovic okafor (mainly for left wing) would in my opinion give us a lot better chance of competing on several fronts on the same time. Then in 2025 camarda can be permanently promoted to the first team after a season in serie c with the u23. Initially as a backup who can in necissity and in need of some match fitness still play a few matches with the u23 team assuming we manage to get one from 2024.
I really hope Giroud has the commitment to help the team for another year because in a year he will most likely still be able to play in MLS.
Afterall Giroud goal/assist contribution in all tournaments 15goals/9 assists in 2794 minutes plated in what equates to roughly 31 full matches. Thats 24g/a combined and it will most likely be difficult to top for any new aquisitions.

  6. Yes Giroud I sincerely hope will stay ..
He is a great asset,,and he always gives the best for the club ..his stats are still very good ,,and I still believe he will score 20 goals this season in all competitions.
We are doing very well at the moment ..I also hope pioli stays …I think we will definitely challenge for the scuddeto again this season …
I think we will beat Roma tomorrow.
So things looking good for us .
