Rivera complains about American Milan and Maldini’s exit: “Americans still don’t know much”

AC Milan legend Gianni Rivera has, today, complained about the state of the club due to the American ownership, RedBird.

There are many faults with Milan in their current state. For many, it is easy to pinpoint why this is the case: the wrong people are in the wrong places. Take the sacking of Paolo Maldini, for example, a domino moment for the events that followed.

Someone who knew the club and Italian football gone in an instant, and with it, the support of many fans. It is not that they supported Maldini (they did, but not solely), but the idea of the Rossoneri, which he knew only too well.

Americans ‘don’t know much’

The hiring of Igli Tare has been done in an attempt to return some sporting and football experience to the management, past the polarising Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Today, though, Rivera spoke about how he should have maybe been considered, as Milan News relayed from Libero.

“Why did you never take me into consideration? Maybe I was a nuisance because I never kept the words my brain was thinking in my mouth. And don’t talk to me about the American Milan. Americans still don’t know much about football. They even sent Paolo Maldini away.”

Do you still identify with this football?

“Not at all. Money never rules, and players are forced, but they don’t rebel, to these tours de force. In my time, together with Mazzola, Bulgarelli and other colleagues, we founded the union precisely to protect the players and ensure rights that they didn’t have before.”

  1. Point taken. But it depends on which Americans.

I think we’d all be fine with the Americans that own Liverpool.

Maybe the best ones are those who know they don’t know what they’re doing and hire the people that do.

    1. Gazidis hired Maldini.

Give us some rest man you’re like some guy dancing at funerals. It’s so painful to see the redbird lovers/USA patriots still acting like everything’s fine. “What a terrible era in which idiots govern the blind.”

    2. They can’t help themselves. Italians always living in the past thinking they are still in their glory days.
Meanwhile not only the Premier League Champions, but 3 of the top 4 clubs in the Premier League are American owned. Not to mention Atalanta and Inter. are both American owned clubs and doing pretty well. Yeah, Americans still don’t know football…
Meanwhile Italy just appointed Gattuso as their head coach. lol
Good luck missing your 3rd straight World Cup.

      1. American owned clubs in Serie A are Atalanta, Fiorentina, Milan, Inter, Parma, Roma, Venezia and Hellas Verona.

Inter defaulted into American ownership after Zhang failed. Roma was a complete dumpster fire until Saint Ranieri took over. The rest aren’t anything to write home about.

The only club run well is Atalanta. Their model is to be followed. Bring in American expertise in branding and marketing. But leave the sporting project and technical direction to competent Italians. Something that Milan is failing spectacularly at.

The truth is always in the middle.

As far as the FIGC is concerned, it needs an overhaul with younger progressive Italian minds. Bring in the likes on Albertini and Baggio even to rebuild.

PECAT MEREKA

  3. Brilliant man who knows Milan well.
Furlani and the American have and will destroy Milan this season as well.
Finishing 8th was ok for the Americans?

  4. Americans in football have done endless damage – AFC Sunderland is a good example and the list goes on.
Liverpool is a not an example of American success by historical comparison of themselves and others like Man Utd.
Americans also fail when it comes to making Beer, drinking it and making chocolate.😜

    1. There Are any good American chocolate Brands!
England is Not a good Model because there are Zero good English Coaches! Rino is better than every american and more or less english Coach! More respect
In Europe there is more funky Atmosphere in Basketball than in whole USA— it is Family but Not the Same!

    2. Go visit Wisconsin in the States and tell me anyone is better at drinking beer then them.

Wisconsin makes the Irish look like amateurs.
