Romano responds to Maignan and Theo Hernandez rumours: “Milan deserve more respect”

By Oliver Fisher -

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez are expected to remain at AC Milan this summer, while the club deserve to be shown ‘more respect’.

Speaking to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano confirmed that neither player is looking to leave Milan this summer despite the links with the likes of Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

Not only that, but Milan’s financial position means that they are in no need to sell their biggest players to bring in funds that can be reinvested, something that is not the case for a lot of the other Italian clubs.

“AC Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani has indicated that Theo Hernandez and Mike Maignan are not for sale this summer, but both have been linked with Bayern Munich, so what’s the truth?” Romano said.

“Despite rumours, my understanding is that Bayern are not working on the Maignan deal, and Bayern are not working on the Hernandez deal – it’s as simple as that.

“I think Milan deserve more respect as their players have been constantly linked with clubs without any bid or even any formal approach, but the reality is that Milan don’t need to sell in order to buy, they said that clearly also in public several times.

“Maignan and Hernandez are expected to stay at Milan, they’ve been very clear for months and this hasn’t changed – only crazy proposals can change the story and no one has even reached out to Milan this summer despite many links on the press. Milan are very relaxed, these are are key players for them, and the situation is under control.”

Both players are currently enjoying a vacation after the European Championship, which they each started every game of for France who were knocked out in the semi-finals by Spain, who would go on to win the competition.

Recent reports have suggested that Milan are confident that Maignan will accept the latest renewal offer put forward, while Theo will also be presented with a sizeable proposal too.

  1. Yeah, it’s all good NOW but how about next summer if neither of them has put their signature on the extension? Then we’re f*ed. And MM16 & Theo will be holding all the aces once this summer’s mercato ends.

    1. The good thing is they’re happy to stay. Bad thing is they want a lot. If we don’t end up wanting to reach their demands it would make most sense to renew them for what they ask and sell them on for top dollar. I’m hoping they’re open to wanting to stay for a fair amount

    2. Given how the management thaught they can get a 35M€ player for 17M€, I’m not that hopefull about the renewal.

        1. True point, but Theo and Mike are at least on a equal footing with Leao, possibly higher, certainly I’m terms of consistency. You can’t give to one and not reciprocate with parity to the others.

At some point if we breed world beaters, we are going to have to pay them accordingly. But as you say it was shown with Leao

        2. But when it’s done and by whom.
Now who is at the administration currently changed completely everything.

There is lot to show by current management.

Especially in the aspects of Theo and Mike renewals

          1. “But when it’s done and by whom.

Nope. It was the current owners and management who were in charge and it was (reportedly) Furlani who made Leao’s extension happen. Check the old posts if you don’t believe.

      1. WTF are you blabbering about? Where did I show ANY disrespect towards Milan? You are so f’ng clueless idiot. And that’s an understatement.

    3. Easy to answer : sell them if still refuse renew till next mercato . But now ACM will feel how that other club feel example monaco ( asking price 35m euro but you offer 12m euro ) . ACM asking 70m euro but next summer bayern only offer 20m euro for theo

  2. It’s very important to extend their contract this season or at least the players should tell their clear intentions so they won’t end up like kessie / dollaruma.
I respect their decisions if they want to leave for challenge or more money, just don’t give the team and the fans a false hope.

    1. It’s in the hands of club now, clearly they are asking pay rise especially Mike is at his peak age whatever he will get now will be his best wage of his career and respect club also should show by good hike atleast by serie A standard for a worldclass player or else club should sell them by January.

Otherwise like we are doing with Fofana no club will bid more than 30/40milllion which will be below par to their value

  3. It’s true. We don’t need or have to sell anyone. But neither do most clubs really. I think these concerns stem from last year’s Mercato and how that was funded. Precedent is a heck of thing

  4. People here rather complain endlessly rather than try to even have an ounce of respect for Milan

    supporters huh lmao

  5. Don’t need to sell… Hearing this bollocks for months now.

How about asking a real question here like, will they offer them proper contracts?

Inter did it. A club who’s downfall is now taking almost as long as the collapse of the Roman Empire did.

But we are financially most sound club in Serie A. Oe of fastest growing football brands globally.

The fact that they’re waiting until the end of mercato to sit down for contract talks, tells me they’re desperately waiting for someone to show up with coffers full of greens. That’s the only language these bankers speak.

    1. “The fact that they’re waiting until the end of mercato to sit down for contract talks, tells me they’re desperately waiting for someone to show up with coffers full of greens”
This. It’s what I suspect too
