RR: Milan highly likely to negotiate over Tonali fee but his stay does not seem in doubt

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are convinced by Sandro Tonali and there are no doubts about him joining on a permanent basis, according to a report.

Il Giornale wrote this morning (via MilanNews) that Tonali will not be signed outright by the Rossoneri despite the fact they beat competition to sign him from Brescia last summer.. That is because another €25m would be needed to complete the purchase when factoring in bonuses, and Tonali will therefore return to Brescia and have to find a new club.

The Italy international played 37 matches for Milan in all competitions this season, including 25 in Serie A, but he wasn’t used much in the final stretch by Pioli, and that has been enough to thrust serious doubt on the deal.

Nonetheless, Radio Rossonera are reporting that Milan are still convinced that they want to sign Tonali outright and there will be no meetings that will involve the agent. However, it is very likely that Milan and Maldini try to reduce the initial figure agreed with Cellino and Brescia regarding the option to buy.

  1. Good, would be a mistake like letting Pirlo go from Inter to Milan because he wasn’t world class out of the gates…. don’t mess up Milan. If we had Locatelli here rather than Meite we’d have a very complete midfield… hopefully these mistakes are behind us. Keep Tonali at all costs. Imagine if we gave up on Kessie after 1, 2, or even 3 seasons where he was below average to bad, now look at him, world class DM/CM this season, so… keep Tonali!

  2. They could prolong the loan for a year with another 10-15 and pay the rest at the end. I think no one doubts him, but the problem could be paying 25mil right now, paying 28 for Tomori and we are definitely supposed to get more players in. Not sure Milan have 150mil to spend even with CL.

  3. My guess is that they will likely change the payment schedule vs. the amount. As a sweetener, I’m sure Milan will send some young talent on loan to Brescia to help them reach Serie A again.

Nothing to see here — just haggling over payment schedules.
