Sacchi explains why Milan’s defeat to Porto generated optimism ‘for the future’

AC Milan suffered a tough defeat on Tuesday evening as they are now three games without a win in the Champions League group stage. Despite this, the Porto defeat generated optimism for the future.

Speaking to Gazzetta Dello Sport, as cited by MilanNews, former Milan manager Arrigo Sacchi was asked about the game. He shared his thoughts on it and also insisted that the aftermath bodes well for the future.

“Porto dominated the match against Milan and deservedly won. Congratulations to Pioli and his players for not talking about alibis, a sign of maturity and self-criticism that bodes well for the future,” he stated.

Milan will take on Porto in their next Champions League clash, this time at home, and it’s a must-win for them. In order to advance, they will essentially have to win their last three games, while also relying on Liverpool to do well in their games.

In other words, it’s a very tough situation for Stefano Pioli’s men and he isn’t helped by the many injuries that continue to haunt the team. As soon as one returns, another one is forced to sit on the sidelines.
