Sacchi explains how Milan can beat Inter in Supercoppa final: “Speed”

Thanks to the 2-1 win against Juventus last night, AC Milan will face Inter in the final of the Supercoppa Italiana. Arrigo Sacchi has already shared his thoughts on how the Rossoneri can beat their rivals.

Sergio Conceicao’s men managed to turn things around in the second half of Juventus, scoring two goals in four minutes, and thus secured a ticket in the final. It will be an opportunity for the Portuguese manager to lift a trophy just one week into his Milan tenure.

Interviewed by Gazzetta dello Sport this morning, the legendary former manager Arrigo Sacchi was asked about yesterday’s game and the upcoming final. He stated that Milan can beat Inter by making the most of pace on the flanks.

How would you play against the Nerazzurri?

“Milan have the chance to put Inzaghi’s team in trouble, especially in terms of speed. The Nerazzurri, strong in all areas, if they suffer from something, it is the speed of the opposing attackers. So in these days, Conceiçao will have to work on this aspect. And he will also have to correct something at the back, because in the first half the defensive phase did not work,” he concluded.

Unfortunately, it seems Rafael Leao will only be able to play a few minutes off the bench, so it remains to be seen which players Conceicao will opt for. If Alex Jimenez, there will still be a great amount of pace on Milan’s left-hand side.

  1. Indeed, speed is Inter’s weakest point. Fast-playing teams can break down Inter, both in defense and attack. The defenders start making simple errors, midfielders run to no avail, and Lautaro can’t hold the ball for more than 1 sec. The question is, can Milan play such a game? Can Milan make quick attacks, which require a high passing accuracy, while not leaving holes behind in defense? I doubt it very much. I expect Inter to comfortably win this one. However, things are decided on the pitch, so only time will tell how the game will go on.

    1. Is this site run by a Milanista or a merda. This clown is always been given tone of space and a path on the back to spew nonsense about Milan. Nawao!!!

  2. Milan never plays fast. Unless we get a lucky break and a shìt load of space. Even our counters are slow most of the time.

  3. Milan has had a lot of fast counters against teams, but, the end product is the problem. They can’t just seem to give the right passes to the strikers to kill off games. I believe we need to control the game, and use our wings well, especially, if Leao plays. The ball has to get to the person in the box to score. Morata and Abraham have to work on their finishing. A lot will depend on the midfielders – Fofana, Reijnders and Bennacer/Musah.

  4. We beat Inter earlier in the season. We know what is needed and if Inter learnt fromnthose mistakes then we need to come up with another strategy. Most Italian coaches are excellent strategists.I hope Conceicao is supported by an advisory team.

  6. Agreed…we must play with 2 speed wings and direct play.

But, the question maybe on Jimenez and Theo. From I saw in Juventus game, there no chemistry from them.

Theo is far much better with Leao.

So, I think put Pulisic on left with Theo, and Musah on the right, or Jimenez, let Musah be the subs again.

And yeah, Emerson also our weak side too. He is kind of not very bad and not so good either. So we can’t rely on him.

Hope this January we have good player for this position.

    1. If we go with your idea of Pulisic on the left and Musah on the right, Musah will be available to help out Emerson, defensively.

It’s not ideal from an attacking standpoint, but it helps cover our biggest defensive weakness.
