Saelemaekers makes revelation about Milan debut: “I didn’t know my position”

Signing for AC Milan on the final day of the transfer window, Alexis Saelemaekers made his debut for the club already against Hellas Verona this past weekend. In fact, he got 13 minutes on the pitch.

Unfortunately, the Rossoneri didn’t win the game, which finished 1-1 after both sides scored in the first half. Certainly, given the chances that Stefano Pioli’s men had in the final stages of the game, they will feel disappointed.

In an interview with Belgian outlet Dhnet (via MilanNews.it), Saelemaekers spoke about his debut with the team, revealing that he didn’t fully understand his position when Pioli decided to bring him on with 13 minutes to ago.

“A historic moment, initially I was a bit tense. Especially when the manager gave me all the instructions in Italian, which I didn’t understand well. To be honest, I didn’t even know my position.

“Then when I saw who was going out (Calabria, editor’s note), I understood that I would play as an attacking full-back, as Verona were down to ten men,” he stated.

On Sunday evening, the Rossoneri will take on Inter at the San Siro as the designated away side. Saelemaekers should start the game on the bench but he might a get a few minutes, depending on how the clash develops.
