San Siro could become UNESCO Heritage Site: what would change about new stadium plans
By Nikita Fesyukov -

San Siro as a UNESCO World Heritage Site? It definitely sounds a bit odd but apparently it is an actual possibility and more news could emerge in the coming weeks. But how would that change AC Milan’s and Inter’s new stadium plans?

According to reports from Sky Sport (via milannews24.com), the Lombard councillor for the Lega party Massimiliano Bastoni would have presented a motion concerning the inclusion of the Giuseppe Meazza stadium in the list of monuments to be placed under the protection of UNESCO.

If this motion were to be accepted and if UNESCO included San Siro among its monumental heritage, then a demolition would be impossible.

This action could also affect the construction of the new stadium for Milan and Inter which, if the San Siro falls under protection, will have to develop a plan B, as the plans up until now all counted on the historical stadium to be demolished and replaced by a new one.
