AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni has spoken of his relief after the club’s withdrawal from next season’s Europa League was confirmed.
Earlier on Friday, it was confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport that the Rossoneri will not be competing in the 2019-20 edition of the Europa League.
Although the official wording was an exclusion, it is widely believed that Milan asked to withdraw in exchange for slackened Financial Fair Play parameters.
Scaroni has now spoken out about the news, admitting it is ‘disappointing’ to be without European football but that it is the correct price to pay in order to get things stable in house once again.
“One must not comment on a sentence,” Scaroni told Sky Sport Italia.
“It is very disappointing not to play in Europe, but we are not the ones responsible for these infractions. We simply had to put an end to this saga and take this burden off our backs.”
