Scaroni believes there has been ‘too much talk’ regarding Milan’s mercato

By Isak Möller -

In the last few weeks, AC Milan received quite a lot of criticism from the fans for not handling the renewals of Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara well. This is something that president Paolo Scaroni has shut down, though.

The lack of renewals for the two directors inevitably caused some delays on the mercato, although to which extent remains unknown. Just the thought of it, however, was enough to spark quite heated debates among the fans.

Speaking to Corriere Della Sera, as cited by SempreMilan.it, Scaroni stated that the work on the mercato never stopped due to the renewal negotiations. He also suggested that there has a bit too much talk in the media.

“Maybe there has been too much talk, but we never stopped. The whole club remained focused on the market, as well as signing important commercial partnerships. I always said that we were confident that Maldini and Massara would continue their precious work.

“Today we are all very convinced to continue the path together, to enhance the sporting results achieved and proceed to achieve new ones. Our club has great professionalism, we are a solid reality, with shareholders who always support us, and certainly Paolo and Ricky represent our strength,” he stated.

In any case, Milan are now working hard to reinforce the team ahead of what will be a very important season. It will start earlier than usual (August 13), meaning Maldini and Massara also will have to work faster.

  1. Yes, sure. A club that is trying to save every single €, asking for discounts on every deal, missed signing anybody before the growth decree deadline passed, or better said until yesterday. I don’t know who buys that it was all fine and business as usual.

  2. The true danger is the current squad renewals. How long are we gonna play this low wages and 4.5mil barrier? We are second fiddle to almost all EPL teams. Together with Europe’s royalty, when they come knocking we truly have no defence. I can see now next season’s excuse will be the stadium. And right now we have a title to defend. Cmon Rossoneri, lets get this shit right!

    1. And where do you think the money would come from Noel? The English and the other few big teams will always be able to outbid and out pay Milan because they take in so much higher revenues. Stop the foolish constant complaints and enter the world of reality. Even with the restrictions on spending in place, Milan lost 150M over the past two years, much better than they had been doing, but still completely unsustainable.

      1. Milan spent 80M last year, no issues. The other point about revenue is sponsorship, most money comes from there. You expect Messias to bring in better deals? PSG has almost x3 from Puma? You think that is because of something random or because of their owners transfer policy, bringing the best players in the world?
