Schira: Cagliari join Torino in pursuit of Marco Giampaolo – why Milan can smile

By Isak Möller -

Currently just four points off a top-five finish, it’s safe to say that AC Milan have been impressive during the second half of the season, especially since the resumption. Very different from the start of the season, in other words.

The Rossoneri started the season with Marco Giampaolo in charge, who was brought in from Sampdoria. However, after just seven games, the manager was sacked as he was responsible for one of the worst starts in the club’s history.

Stefano Pioli replaced the 52-year-old and has done a very good job thus far, completely changing the look of the team. That being said, Giampaolo is still on Milan’s wage bill, which is far from ideal given his achievements at the club.

According to Nicolo Schira, Cagliari are thinking about signing the manager, who has previously been linked with Torino as well. Should Giampaolo sign with either of them, then Milan would save €4m gross as his current contract is valid until 2021.
