Yunus Musah was subbed on in AC Milan’s game against Juventus last night and played a huge part in the own-goal that decided the game. As highlighted by Luca Serafini, subbing in the American made all the difference.
Ismael Bennacer played the game from start, his first in a long time, but struggled a bit in the mezz’ala role to the right. Therefore, in the 53rd minute, Sergio Conceicao brought on Yunus Musah instead and it turned out to be a great decision.
Speaking live on MilanTV last night, as transcribed by MilanNews, the pundit Luca Serafini talked about the substitution and named it as the key to the win. Musah, after all, has played more in the mezz’ala role compared to Bennacer and added more when going forward.
“The substitution of Musah turned the game upside down, he’s more suited to playing as a mezz’ala and he worked hard. The build-up still wasn’t perfect, but the key was Musah: more protection at the back and bursts in attack,” he stated.
It remains to be seen if Musah will play from start in the final against Inter, scheduled for Monday evening. It all depends on whether Conceicao will continue with the 4-3-3 formation or not, especially since playing with two strikers worked in the second half yesterday.
Conceicao also changed roles and positions of Fofana and Bennacer mid-game.
Bennacer stats from last night are remarkable considering he’s been out since the start of the season.
Bennacer was really rusty. Like, reeeeeally. Kept misplacing passes.
Yeah that’s why I said, he missed half of the season but in his 54 minutes on the field last night, he still managed:
Total passes – 47
Passing accuracy – 94%
Duels won – 8
Total tackles – 3
Ball recovery – 4
Got dispossessed of the ball twice in the first half.Currently,he has no game rhythm. But we need him,so should get back on the rotation very soon.
He was also being crowded and only passes he could make were back to the cbs. Who (tomori) thought it was a good idea to pass back to the guy who was being crowded.
Talking about misplaced passes, fofana was there.
One match and we can see a better decision than Fonseca. Yes the subs made all the difference. While Fonseca tends to take such a long time to make a single sub and rarely use all the subs option.
Bennacer in ac milan lineup i can’t believe slow no (acceleration) predictable zero defense no creativity only good passer nothing else
