Sky journalist perplexed by Donnarumma situation: “The player is tied to Raiola”

Gigio Donnarumma has decided not to renew his contract with Milan and will leave the club at the end of June. After many years with the Rossoneri, therefore, his agent Mino Raiola will have to find a new club.

Many were surprised to see the news coming out this week, as Milan acted fast and announced Mike Maignan yesterday. On the other hand, this has been coming and the reports in recent months haven’t been that optimistic.

Speaking live on Sky Italia, as cited by MilanNews, journalist Matteo Marani spoke about the somewhat strange situation and what holds for Donnarumma. As he stated, the No.99 seems to be very attached to the Dutch-Italian agent.

“We have to see where Raiola will place Donnarumma. We understand that the agent decides his future and Milan, tired and fed up, chose a new goalkeeper after the moral blackmail of the player’s agent. I don’t understand why you have to pay a commission of €20m to an agent. The player is tied to Raiola and not Milan even if the agent doesn’t have a federated team.

“The only inconsistency of Donnarumma I saw was in his behaviour, as he seemed inclined to stay at Milan and the actual will was another. Now, however, only the player pays the consequences,” he stated.

It remains to be seen where Donnarumma will end up but it’s also clear that Milan have moved on from the situation already. Either way, it’s a successful partnership that has come to an end.
