Sky journalist provides updates on Ibrahimovic, Kjaer, Romagnoli and Milan’s salary cap

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan intent to impose a salary cap over the summer which puts the futures of a couple of key players at risk, according to Peppe Di Stefano.

Di Stefano spoke to Sky Italia about the current situation at Milan (via MilanNews), beginning by addressing the experienced players that arrived in January.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will leave on 30 June and will not sign a renewal, he claims, while for Simon Kjaer and Asmir Begovic – both of whom arrived on loan – the future remains in the balance.

Lucas Biglia will not renew, while for Giacomo Bonaventura the situation is still to be decided. In addition, Di Stefano adds that Milan want to set a ceiling for salaries of €2.5-3million per player, per year.

That means that there is some hope for the negotiations regarding a renewal with Alessio Romagnoli (currently on €3.5m-a-year), but for Donnarumma the issue is much more delicate.

Milan will build around the likes of Ismael Bennacer, Theo Hernandez, Ante Rebic and Rafael Leao, who must have a breakthrough season to justify the money spent by the Rossoneri last summer.
