While the defensive department is drawing a lot of attention given that AC Milan continue to concede goals in nearly every game, the constant shuffling of the midfield has come under the microscope tooo.
As Sky reports, Stefano Pioli has not experienced a start to the week like this in 2024 and the result against Atalanta had nothing to do with it. Instead, he can be positive because his three first choice centre-backs are all fit, with Pierre Kalulu and Fikayo Tomori now back.
Due to this, Pioli will be able to try to reduce the number of goals conceded given that they are 10th in the table of most goals conceded, even if on the flip side the Rossoneri then have the second-best attack.
The report also looks at the midfield combinations that Milan have used this season under Pioli. The numbers paint an interesting picture, starting with the trio of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Yacine Adli and Ismael Bennacer who have played together three times and average just 1.3 points per game.
RLC with Yunus Musah and Tijjani Reijnders has been used twice and yields 1.5 points per game, then RLC-Bennacer-Reijnders averages two points per game and RLC-Adli-Reijnders is comfortably the best: 2.7 PPG from seven games.
What is certain is that in order try get second spot in the table and to go far in the Europa League, Pioli must settle on what he thinks is his best trio in terms of balance in both phases rather than changing every game.
At least we know there are two certainties in there, RLC and Reijnders
Reijnders is Milan best midfielder and he should be played as a box to box with Adli or Bennacer as a regista.
The best combination for me is Adli, Reijnders and Musah. As much as RLC is scoring goals Musah is better in the AM. He can shoot, defend and he runs a lot and he presses better than RLC.

To be honest, RLC plays one good match and then goes missing for 3-4.
