Sky: Milan’s probable XI against Monza – five changes with Okafor on the right

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will take on Monza in the 25th round of Serie A tomorrow and Stefano Pioli could make five changes to the starting XI, according to a report. Noah Okafor is one of the expected starters, playing on the right this time out.

Milan secured an important 3-0 win against Stade Rennes mid-week but despite the clear advantage ahead of the second leg, Pioli could rotate against Monza tomorrow. According to Luca Bianchin and Sky Italia (via MilanNews), he could make five changes.

Malick Thiaw is set to replace Simon Kjaer in the backline, having recovered from his injury and making an appearance off the bench last time out. In midfield, Tijjani Reijnders is not at 100% and that’s why Yacine Adli and Ismael Bennacer should start.

Finally, in the attacking trio, Noah Okafor is set to start but he will not replace Rafael Leao, taking the spot of Christian Pulisic instead. Luka Jovic will also get the opportunity as Olivier Giroud is set for some rest.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan, Florenzi, Thiaw, Gabbia, Theo Hernandez; Bennacer, Adli; Okafor, Loftus-Cheek, Leao; Jovic.

Milan won the reverse fixture 3-0 and will be looking to continue their positive run in Serie A with another big win.

  1. Puli gets the rest he’s been needing, Jovic gets the start he’s been deserving, and we get to see the Algerian Connection again.

  2. Glad to see Reijnders benched.

It’s so sad that we used to have: Kessie, Tonali and Bennacer as midfield tandem.

    Now? Bennacer and Reijnders, Adli.

Reijnders was supposed to be the AM, but he can’t shoot pass or score, so they moved him back and moved RLC forward. Reijnders is still terrible as a DM and now you can add that he can’t defend either. So glad to see him benched. Useless midfielder.

Adli is not a game breaker at the moment, he’s OK at best. Hope he continues developing.

Musah? Not talented enough to play at Milan level and certainly not as a starter.

Our midfield is really really lacking skill, off/on ball movement and experience, except for Bennacer.

      1. ??? Come on buddy. I’m a little disappointed. I expect better of you.
Any midfield with Kessie in it will be preferred and is superior to any combination of the current new crop. Kessie, Tonali and Bennacer is vastly superior to Reijnders, Musah and RLC. The roles of Reijnders, Musah and RLC can easily be covered by Kessie, Tonali and Bennacer. The role of Kessie cannot and hasn’t been covered by Reijnders, Musah and RLC. It’s very simple.
Any combination as long as it includes Kessie is preferred. Kessie, Tonali and even Pobega or a pylon is superior😂

        1. I loved Kessie at Milan.

He went to Barca and did what? Now he is at which club? Doing what?

RLC scores more but needs to be more consistent. Oh, and he happens to be here, playing for Milan.

Reinjders needs a rest before we can truly eval the guy. He’s been protecting a decimated back line and a keeper out of form. Oh, and he happens to be her playing for Milan.

Musah was not bought to start. He was bought to develop in the first team and has been an exceptional utility player. He is 20, Kessie is 27. We bought Musah for 17m, Kessie is currently valued at $20m and wants way more in salary. Oh, and Musah is here, playing for Milan anywhere he is asked to.

Did I mention that Kessie chose to leave? So whether he is better or not is irrelevant. I’d personally not take Kessie right now because he wouldn’t be here next year.

I’d not take Tonali because I’m aware he has a personal problem that puts him at risk of missing entire seasons.

I’m glad Bennacer is back, here at Milan, playing for us. I’m glad we have players who want to be here and are not doing things outside the pitch that keep them off the pitch.

To be a great Milan midfielder you must want to be at Milan first. Without that the rest is details.

    1. Bennacer, adli, pobega, that three are useless reinders and Musa that two are our best midfielders they are just new to the league

    2. It’s true Kessie is better then Musah and Tonali better than Reijnders but what we need to remember is that both Kessie and Tonali werent great either in there first season.

    3. Totally agree on Tij part
I was hoping this guy will be the one with unexpected passes through and shots from distance (based on what we have seen in Youtube videos of him)
But instead, we got a guy who always plays safe with the passes for 5-10 meters and most of them to the closes partner or back.
He has to be more free and confident because he has this abilities, he just need to stop being afraid to lose the ball.

  3. Pls we dnt have useless mid fielder, every one is different in their own style of play.Reijnder is the only stillful midfielder we have, go and check his past record. He has not yet clicked; RLC is jist clicking ; charles de k is just Clicking in Atalanta. Pls we want constructive criticism if u are a true milan fan.

  4. Sky usually get the lineups correct.
I wonder if Pioli is going to employ the same tactic as last time ie setup as a 4 at the back but play a back three with a midfielder dropping back or theo at CB and have an effective 343 🤔
