Sky: Milan’s probable XI to face Inter – Messias the surprise in midfield

Stefano Pioli is looking to shake things up for AC Milan’s clash against Inter and the big surprise in the starting XI could thus be Junior Messias. Not on the right wing, but rather in the midfield.

Milan desperately need a win and they are faced with a challenging task this weekend, as they will face Inter in the Derby della Madonnina. The Nerazzurri are the clear favourites after winning 3-0 in the Supercoppa Italiana.

According to Sky Italia, as cited by FCInterNews, Pioli is expected to change the formation from his usual 4-2-3-1 to a 4-3-3. However, Junior Messias could start in midfield and that would make the change relatively minimal, one could argue.

The Brazilian winger was tested in the mezz’ala position yesterday and today in training, currently ahead of Tommaso Pobega for a starting spot. It’s a solution that will be interesting to see in action, but one can certainly question it.

Probable Milan XI (4-3-3): Tatarusanu; Calabria, Kalulu, Kjaer, Hernandez; Messias, Tonali, Krunic; Saelemaekers, Giroud, Leao.

  1. Put CDK on the left, and if Pioli doesn’t like Vranckx or Pobega at least Put Saelemakers in the mezzala role instead of Messias.
Messias is the most selfish player in the team. He never looks to pass

    1. Origi is the most selfish player. He shoots from everywhere and dribbles all the time. But yeah Messias is not much different.

    2. I have absolutely no idea how this team will get anything done. It will be interesting to see how the formation is built for real during the game. I feel it will be very unbalanced. Our midfield is a joke without Bennacer. I will bet my money on Inter this time. If Milan wins I will have to eat my words. But looking at our team I feel we have almost no chance at all this derby.

  2. Please God, Jehovah, Allah, Manitou, Buddha, Christ, Krishna, whatever deity, please just don’t let us lose by more than two goals. I know it’s gonna happen, just don’t make it ugly.

    1. CDK is slow and doesn’t decide quick or say don’t know what to do with the ball. i feel he does not believe in himself or better still only playing to Pioli instruction instead of playing with the team the best way he knows how to, To unleash his real quality as he hardly take shots.. even Calabria do shot outside the box.

Theo and Leao need to find their lost rhythm and connectivity plus Pioli need to stop playing Tatarusanu

    1. Yessssss this. EXACTLY THIS. I’ve been waiting for someone to say this lol. They just let everything slip out to the ops. Lol. And they’ve been pretty accurate too, smh. How can a milan fan, albeit a money making website, just give out such important info everytime. There’s no surprise

  3. This could actually work with Tonali as DM. I would very much like to see that. Looks very much like a well balanced team. Only person I do not want to see is Tata. But, I do understand giving Vasquez or Mirante a game against Inter would be very tough for them. Might even mess up their confidence. Pioli, I blame it on you. You should have given Vasquez at least one chance since his arrival. Betting tips boys put your money on Inter with handicap. You will win 100%

  4. If this is the line up then pioli has completely lost it. How can you play Messias in midfield in a derby after we have lost 3 on the bounce. It’s not the event for experiments. Krunic and messias in midfield would probably be the worst ever ac Milan midfield combination with saelemakers on the right

  5. Atlètico signed Memphis Depay for €3m, damn we could have signed him as back up for Leao.

Benfica sold E. Fernandez for €119m and bought Andreas Schjelderup as replacement for €9m, very smart and awesome piece of business, A. Schjelderup is one to watch out for.

We could have signed Marcus Thuram for between €10-13m, he can play anywhere across the front line, with direct dribbling, power and pace, effectively solving our RW problems.

We actually didn’t need to spend big, we only needed to spend smartly.

  6. Juventus Whom 15 Points Had Been Deducted will Take us Over.
Shame Such Dull Coach without Managerial Adjucement.
    Do’nt we have Primavera Players.
Why did we sign D Vasqyes.
You Look the Team Going Down day by Day

  7. We will see when it’s match time, this is a decoy lineup , I hope , we need some serious “beef” in the midfield, rather see Rebic in there

  8. If this is true then may the Lord be with us. Changing a fromation we haven’t played the entire season before a derby game? What can go wrong

  9. WE NEED SOME FUSION IN OUR SQUAD
    1. MIRANTE + TATA = Alisson Country
    2. GIROUD + ORIGI = Erling Haaland
    3. REBIC + LEAO = VINICIUS JR
    4. SAELEMAEKER + MESSIAS = M.SALAH
    5. CALABRIA + DEST = Trent Alexander-Arnold
    6. POBEGA + KRUNIC = PEDRI

  10. We have serious midfield problems and we’re going to use 3 at the moment? Messias as a mid? Have you seen him defend… This is going to end really bad

  11. Big problem form the coach, someone who can’t play the left wing u want to use as midfield messias another loosen 😂😂😂 another problem is Tatarusanu the worst gaolkeeper Milan have another l😂st

  12. This is the stuff that Pioli does that just baffles me. I don’t think there is any secret genius behind it, because if it were then our squad would be shaped and used much differently.

For example, he plays Dest ahead of Ballo as the 2nd choice LB. Then when UEFA CL rosters come up, he includes Ballo and leaves Dest off.

Now everyone says Milan miss Kessie and that the RW position is lacking quality. Pioli’s solution? Play both of the sub par RWs and play Messias as a novice in midfield rather than Pobega—who the club has put years and years of faith in developing—and also rather than Vranckx—the young player brought in ostensibly to be a long term Kessie replacement.

It just makes no sense. And Tata between the goalposts? Oh dear god, I can’t even be started.

Maybe it will work, I don’t have a magic calcio crystal ball and neither does Pioli, but these repeated decisions that have contradictory and occasionally borderline delusional internal logic are extremely frustrating to deal with as a fan. If feels like the simple option is never the one Pioli wants to take when attempting to solve any problem.
