Sky: Musah and Pobega to battle it out for starting spot in Milan-Juventus

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan and Juventus will take on each other underneath the floodlights at San Siro on Sunday evening. It should be an exciting clash and Stefano Pioli still has one XI doubt, a report claims.

Due to the absences of Mike Maignan, Marco Sportiello and Theo Hernandez, the manager has been forced to some changes for the big clash. Antonio Mirante, the veteran goalkeeper, will make his first-ever start for the Rossoneri.

According to Sky Italia (via Francesco Nasato), the rest of the XI is pretty much set but there is one doubt in midfield. Yunus Musah appears to be in pole position for now, but he will battle it out with Tommaso Pobega.

Probable Milan XI (4-3-3): Mirante; Calabria, Thiaw, Tomori, Florenzi; Musah/Pobega, Adli, Reijnders; Pulisic, Giroud, Leao.

Pobega was able to work with the team during the entire international break while Musah was out on duty for the United States. A decision will likely be taken once we get closer to the game, which is an important one for Milan as it will be a tough seven days (facing PSG and Napoli too).

    1. he is tired and stupid gregg played him almost 180 min for no reason but that hes afraid the team will explode if he takes him off the field. even up 4-0. You could tell. What a stupid decision.

He had just played two huge 90s…

  1. Musah should always start instead of Pobega. Pobega should be transferred as soon as possible. No reason to have him in the team. Sell Pobega and get Andrea Colpani.

  2. The only reason I can see Pioli starts Pobega over Musah is because Musah was on international duty with USA, on the other hand Pobega trained with the remaining players in Milanelo. But I prefer Musah over Pobega for a starter, Pobega could easily be a good substitution for 10-15 minutes but not a starter, not against Juve.

    1. gregg had no reason to play musah that much. he was definitely tired…after dortmund and genoa, two 90s in a row while hes getting into form, he gets played close to 180 minutes. So stupid.

      1. Gregg Berhalter is a numbskull.
There is hardly anybody who thought he should be USMNT coach other than the USSF and their MLS Overlords

    2. actually, id say there is two reasons. Musah is tired, or they want him as fresh as possible for Wednesday because they already ruled out rlc…that ones rough though…

  3. I really dont care who starts but i can see several reasons to start pobega, He is a somewhat bigger player than musah, he can use both of his feet equally, can shoot from distance, Thats just a few arguments but it could also be argued that by pobegas presence early on in the game he could pave the way for others later on in the match. Either way i also like musah and has no issues with him starting but pobega can offer more than you guys tend to believe.

      1. that was just one part but i never said musah cant shoot but check this out and that is with pobegas left foot and he actually scored 3 goals in a combined 1108 minutes which equates to 12.3111 full matches so stop imagining that poebega cant shootif that is what you are doing as he scored every 4rth full match played according to the miinutes he played last season.

          1. thats ok and I do think pobega often looks a bit clumsy due to his large frame but he surely can shoot and with both feet. Anyways the coach’s job is to make tactical evaluation from match to match and sometimes one choice will work and other times the same wont work.

  4. We have tight schedule ahead against some wicked teams and rotations are necessary. Musah was overused last week. Better to have Pobega on field than risk Musah getting injuried.

  5. I see all those people again with international coach licensees coming here discussing the topic of Pobega and how bad he apparently is. Hope you really paid well for mentoring such novice coaches as Juric and Pioli as they understand nothing. And all these stats that say nice things about Pobega — they just not real.

  6. Musah is obviously a better player, but he played 90 minutes against Germany a week ago and 75 minutes against Ghana on Tuesday. I wouldn’t be surprised if Pobega got the start so that Musah is fresh for the Champions league.
