DAZN: The staggering speed of Theo Hernandez’s volley against Atalanta

By Oliver Fisher -

Theo Hernandez’s volley in the win over Atalanta on Sunday night was certainly an absolute rocket, but now DAZN have revealed just how fast it actually went.

The Frenchman had a huge hand in the opening goal that sent Milan on their way to a vital 2-0 victory in front of a sold out crowd at San Siro. A ball into Giroud in the box was masterfully headed backwards into the path of Theo, who could not have hit his volley any sweeter.

It feels like it should go down as his goal, but ultimately it cannoned off the post, hit Juan Musso’s back and rebounded in for an own-goal. Theo even joked after the game that he is claiming it as his, and we don’t blame him given how sweet a strike it was.

As reported by DAZN (via MilanNews), Theo Hernandez’s volley that caused Musso’s own-goal was measured at a speed of 104.42 kilometres per hour.

  1. “104.42 kilometres per hour”

LOL. That’s nothing! I was kicking the ball 124km/h when I was 16 years old. When it’s reaching the 140-150 km/h speeds THEN it’s something. Anyone can kick the ball to go 100km/h.

    1. I kicked it at 298,456km/h when i was 11. And I’m sure next guy that replies has kicked it even faster. If this thread keeps going, some will claim they kicked it faster than the speed of light.

Anyway, current Guinness world record is 129 km/h (80.1 mph) achieved by Francisco Javier Galan Màrin (Spain) at the studios of El Show de los Récords, Madrid, Spain on 29 October 2001.

So congrats at almost beating a world record when you were 16 lol.

Don’t even get me started on the 140-150 km/h part lmao.

      1. Shiva you know he never actually had his shot speed measured, he just made up a number. 😀

Mine couldn’t be measured, it was too fast for instruments we have today. They will try again in a 100 years…

      2. The Guardian:
Therefore, our top 10, as it stands, is …

        1) David Hirst – 114mph (for Sheffield Wednesday @ Arsenal on September 16 1996)
        2) David Beckham – 97.9mph (for Man Utd v Chelsea on February 22 1997)
        3) David Trezeguet – 96mph (for Monaco @ Man Utd on March 19 1998)
        4) Richie Humphreys – 95.9mph (for Sheffield Wednesday v Aston Villa on August 17 1996)
        5) Matt Le Tissier – 86.8mph (for Southampton v Newcastle on January 18 1997)
        6) Alan Shearer – 85.8mph (for Newcastle v Leicester on February 2 1997)
        7) Roberto Carlos – 85.2mph (for Brazil v France on June 3 1997)
        8) Tugay – 84.2mph (for Blackburn @ Southampton on November 3 2001)
        9) Obafemi Martins – 84mph (for Newcastle @ Tottenham on January 14 2007)
        10) David Beckham – 80.5mph (for Man Utd @ Derby on September 4 1996)

        1. Hate to break it to you but just check the Guinness World record website. It is always up to date and those numbers are official.

Articles in random british newspapers that quote arbitrary numbers taken from a live football game in England, measured under god knows what conditions, are not official in any way, and shouldn’t be taken seriously. They are all from EPL and they are part of their marketing, so shady at best.

And once again, I do hope you continued to practice, so you can set the new World record soon. Number to beat still is 129 km/h (80.1 mph) so you’re very very close. lmao

          1. Just read the comment below. Official Guinness record or actual speeds measured? Are you saying Usain Bolt isn’t the fastest man ever because he didn’t run his records under Guinness’s official testing environment? LOL.

          2. ” are not official in any way, ”

So what? It still doesn’t invalidate the fact that footballers kick the ball waaaay faster than 100km/h in EVERY single football match and that figure isn’t anything “stellar”.

But sure, you can live in your little fantasy world if you like. Like I care. I know the facts and that’s enough for me. 🙂

          3. Also:

“According to the Guinness Book of Records that honour goes to the little known Ronny Heberson who shook the goal to its very foundations with an incredible 132mph for Sporting Lisbon against Naval in 2006. The Brazilian left fullback had not enjoyed the best of seasons for Sporting but this 88th minute goal has earned him a place in their record books.”

      3. Do you really think football players go to Guinness World Records to try and break records? LOL. Nope. The speeds measured below (my comment) are recorded in actual football matches. So in ideal environment they could kick even harder as you rarely have the time to focus 100% on the kick during a football match.

      4. “Anyway, current Guinness world record is 129 km/h (80.1 mph) achieved by Francisco Javier Galan Màrin (Spain) at the studios of El Show de los Récords, Madrid, Spain on 29 October 2001.

Talks like that just prove your ignorance and the fact that you’ve never played the game. But it’s OK, you might still be good at FM even if you lack the knowledge in the real world. Just because you don’t know shit doesn’t mean others don’t either. 🙂

      5. “According to the Guinness Book of Records that honour goes to the little known Ronny Heberson who shook the goal to its very foundations with an incredible 132mph for Sporting Lisbon against Naval in 2006. And there’s also that. Who knew? Not shiva. 😀 😀 😀 😀

        1. Link to that 132mph goal attached. The best way to counter-argument idiotic claims is via facts. Facts with evidence. So there you go. Case closed.

    1. You kicked the ball at staggering speed of 124 km/h when you were 16. Nothing you post after that will be taken seriously. Ever.

      Never, ever, ever.

      1. Like I give a **** what you think. LOL. Facts are facts even if a keyboard warrior with zero experience in real-life football claims otherwise. 😀

        1. Say the guy that clsimed he almost broke the Guinness world record when he was 16. Talk about keyboard worrior and posting BS to make themselves feel relevant on a random football related board.

          124 km/h lololololololololllolol

          1. Fact is a fact. You weren’t there. I bet you weren’t even born yet.

You are confusing facts with opinions again. The exact same thing goes with Earth. Even if your tiny lil brain thinks the Earth is flat it really isn’t and you refusing to accept the fact doesn’t make it any less true.

  2. soccerprime.com fastest-soccer-shots-ever-recorded

just put a slash after the .com and see some nice goals.

But yeah. I made my point. FM-videoballers know nothing about the real world football. That became pretty obvious in this little chat. 🙂

      1. I bet for someone like you who doesn’t even know how to kick the ball it seems impossible. But then again, the Earth isn’t flat either even if you think so.
