Report: Spezia want to add Milan’s Caldara to their defence

By Euan Burns -

Spezia would like to add AC Milan defender Mattia Caldara to their defence this summer but Milan may use him differently, a report claims.

As has been reported by Il Secolo XIX (via Milan News), the Ligurian side have a plan to sign Caldara and make him part of a back three next season with Dimitrios Nikolauo and Jakob Kiwior.

Spezia director Riccardo Pecini and new Spezia coach Luca Gotti think that that is the defence they want to start next season with. The director has got a good relationship with Milan technical director Paolo Maldini.

There is no issue in terms of whether Milan are willing to let Caldara leave the club this summer. The issue is that they have been trying to use him as a makeweight in other transfer discussions rather than selling him outright.

It will take a few days for any negotiations to really take off for the player currently valued at over €3 million.

  1. Worst transfer operation in the history of Milan that started with the unnecessary signing of Bonucci and finished with his swap for Caldara.
Another example that unless you have a long term coach with credibility you shouldn’t listen to their requests for players signings. Montella wanted Bonucci, Biglia & Kalinic and they were all expensive mistakes. Gattuso asked for Castillejo and Milan still cant get rid of him.
