Suma insists Camarda call-up is not the result of poor ‘planning’ by Milan

By Isak Möller -

The 15-year-old Francesco Camarda has been called up for tonight’s game between AC Milan and Fiorentina. With three forwards unavailable, it was a necessary decision by Stefano Pioli and one that cannot be criticised.

Most Milan fans are excited about the idea of Camarda getting a few minutes tonight. He would become the youngster player in history to make his Serie A debut, which in itself is an impressive feat. Others, however, have used the call-up to point out the flaws of Milan’s planning.

In his latest editorial for MilanNews, the MilanTV pundit and commentator Mauro Suma addressed the criticism towards the management. With three forwards out, calling up the Primavera striker is the only reasonable choice and it cannot be used against the management.

“Then there is the other cliché: something has gone wrong in the planning phase if Milan are forced to call up a 15-year-old. First of all, if the starting striker is suspended and the other two forwards are injured, the Primavera striker is always expected to be called up.

“And if the striker of the Primavera turns 16 in March, and he is the starter because of his qualities, it certainly cannot be the fault of any planning,” he wrote.

Then, however, is clear that Milan could have done a lot better than Luka Jovic as their main replacement for Olivier Giroud. That criticism is certainly justified and it remains to be seen what the Serbian can do tonight. Using Camarda’s call-up as an argument, on the other hand, makes little sense.

While Camarda is 15, we must remind ourselves that many of the Primavera players are between the ages of 17-19.

  1. You should know. This is just Pioli’s fairy tale sensation with Camarda’s call-up.
He will not be part of the squad again if the strikers return from injury. Like Adli who never played again. Pioli jokes.
