Suso reveals the backstory as to how his nickname came about

Jesús Joaquín Fernández Sáez de la Torre, more commonly known as Suso, revealed the backstory as to how his nickname actually came about, speaking in a long interview with Sky Italia (via MilanNews.it).

The Spaniard has been crucial for the Rossoneri in the last few seasons. However, at the start of this one, he hasn’t exactly had the same success. Therefore, he has received some critics from the Milan fans.

In the last few games, though, the entire team has seemingly improved and hopefully, Suso can follow this path. Should he get back to his top form, then he will be crucial for Pioli’s men, who need to turn things around after the poor start.

So, how did his nickname come about? In the interview, as mentioned, he explained where and how it all began.

“My dad was called also called Suso and his name is also Jesus like me. I don’t know why they called him that. When I was 7 or 8 years old, I played football with my schoolmates and there was one friend who started calling me ‘Suso’. From there it stuck,” he stated.

On Sunday afternoon, the Rossoneri will take on Parma away from home. The winger has recovered from his injury struggles and will most likely play from the first minute.
