Tatarusanu ‘happy’ but laughs at his assist for Diaz: “Let’s be honest” – video

By Isak Möller -

Ciprian Tatarusanu had a solid game for AC Milan against Monza as he not only made a few good stops, but also assisted Brahim Diaz for the opener. After the clash, he admitted that the praise should be for the Spaniard.

The Romanian goalkeeper has been criticised over the last few weeks but yesterday’s display was a positive one. Since Mike Maignan has sustained a new injury, he will be the starter until the World Cup.

Speaking to MilanTV (see video below with subtitles), Tatarusanu shared his thoughts after the game.

“For me, it wasn’t easy to return to playing after one year but little by little I’m getting back to match fitness and my relationship with the squad on the pitch is improving. And as a result, I feel much better.

“We know the way we want to play and work hard in training to implement the ideas. I’m happy that I set up the opening goal, but let’s be honest: Brahim did more than I did.

“Playing again felt normal as I had played the last five games but I feel sorry for Mike for sustaining an injury, which must be hard to take. But I was ready to be called upon and I’m happy that the team wins when I play.

“We start thinking about Zagreb tomorrow. Today, we want to celebrate the win because we deserve it after playing such a great game. Just like in Serie A, there are no easy games in the Champions League.”

  1. With him in the post, the players don’t joke around knowing he can comcede any kind of goal so they get serious. With MM, they think he will save them even if they make a mistake and that costs us a lot. Tata, I wish you all the best. I know you can do more so please help us to another title as your penalty save against Inter last season proved how great a GK you are.

  2. He should have done better with the freekick , and it’s the 2nd freekcick that shows his lack of reaction on his feet….
But frankly he is not doing so bad and he’s made some good saves during these 5 games! I remember a low shot from Mason Mount in the first game and Tata went for it and made a world class save , that even Maignan could have missed it…
He need’s to work on his decision making, being more agile on his feet, play better with his feet , Vision/ Distribution and lastly being more dominant when leaving his goal .
He is too old to polish all these flaws, so this shows that Milan needs another back up GK next year, I think Cragno would have been a descent back up … Monza took that chance
