TMW: Atalanta could use funds from €75m sale to make attempt for De Ketelaere

By Isak Möller -

Atalanta are on the verge of selling Rasmus Hojlund to Man Utd and are expected to use the funds from that sale to reinforce their attack. One of the players on their wish list is AC Milan’s Charles De Ketelaere.

De Ketelaere had a very disappointing first season with Milan after joining in a €35m deal last summer. He managed just one assist and really struggled to impose himself, eventually losing the battle with Brahim Diaz for the No.10 role.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the Belgian international has ended up on the radar of Atalanta, who already have enquired about the player. With the sale of their striker Rasmus Hojlund to Atalanta for around €75m, the Bergamo side could make a proper attempt.

They have already brought in El Bilal Touré for the No.9 role, as stated by the report, and now need an attacking midfielder. Milan have made it known that they need at least €28m to part ways with the Belgian this summer and the operation is a complicated one, as the report concluded.

  1. Getting around 28mil for a player that didnt do anything in 50 games last season is a great deal and should be closed ASAP! Its not that I dont believe in him anymore, but i think that we could really use that extra 30ish mil for Dominguez and someone like Scammaca.

    1. Well actually you don’t have 28 million. Milan lost 35 million on De Ketelaere of which 7 million are amortised in books.
But because De Ketelaere didn’t provide anything on pitch, that 7 million plus gross salary are totally loss.
If Milan get 28 million for him, in the books it will not be shown like loss.
But in realistic terms in that case Milan loss is 7 mill plus his 1 gross wage.
To capital gain realistically Milan must sell him for more than 35, or keep him and hope he will improve till next season.

      1. You’re using numbers that are of little relevance. Yes, it appears on the books as a small loss. But the important part is that if we sell him, we will have €28m more than if we don’t. That means €28m more to spend. Not profit, but more money than if the deal doesn’t happen.

      2. I get what ur saying Milanello. It’s an accounting thing. If ur not in the field or have done similar work then most likely won’t understand. But on an accounting basis, 28 would be break even.
That being said, I’d take 25 or more easily

        1. LOL. Then why not just play Colombo? I hear Gabbiadini is available for small cost. He scored like 12 goals for Sampdoria last season.

  2. Milan should keep this player by loaning him out, because it took almost 3 seasons for Zidane to adapt to Juventus style or play. We should not sell and regret later , I repeat again send him out on loan to a serie A club to build confidence

  3. Atalanta might be just the right choice for him. In term of environment and the Gasperini’s playing style. Looks like they always come up with decent AM / SS in their team. Malinovski, Pessina, Ilicic, and even Papu Gomez.

  4. As said this numerous times before – LaDea is THE PERFECT team for him – if any club can realize his potential and turn him into a player everyone expect him to become, it’s definitely Atalanta.
But I’d rather see him going on a loan with an option to buy him out for a certain amount that will make Milan not to be in a negative balance (or not too much) regarding the money spent for him. Cuz, if he does find himself in Atalanta, afterwards they could sell him for even higher figure than what they did with Hojlund, and we wouldn’t wanna be biting our behinds in such case, right?! On the other hand, if he turns out to become the next JP Hauge (as I’m sure many think it’s the case), then getting a decent sum for him now is the best thing.
However, I prefer loan, as there’s a potential in the lad, it’s more than clear!
