While there is a lot of talk about the new faces that will arrive at AC Milan this summer, it is not a given that some star names won’t leave the club.
Marco Conterio has published a piece for TMW which looks more specifically at Rafael Leao’s future at Milan after a rollercoaster season, starting with Paolo Scaroni’s alleged comments: “If they give us 150 million I will pack his bags for him.”
These comments were then promptly denied by the club, who said: “It’s not his opinion, he has never said certain things.” The club and its press office announced that through a chat dedicated to official communications to the press.
They did not therefore consider it necessary to make press releases through their ‘public’ channels, considering the message to the various editors sufficient to clarify and explain, to extinguish the case.
Meanwhile, Leao – who is active on social media and attentive to agencies – received the message and denied it through the press, without direct contact from anyone at the club. This is a factor that transmitted to him, net of the sincerity of the club’s version and of Scaroni himself, coldness and ‘distance’.
The fact remains that the Portuguese has a €175m release clause but the feeling is that no club will offer that amount, and if they did then the Rossoneri management would not be able to stand in his way.
In the last few days, rumours have arrived about interest from Saudi Arabia but no official offers have come forward. There are expressions of interest and requests for information – which have come from both Saudi Arabia and the Premier League – but Milan’s inbox remains empty.
There have been ‘some disagreements, which then subsided, even within the dressing room’ that concern Leao. The winger had a heated discussion with Mike Maignan – another leader of the team – and head coach Stefano Pioli before he department.
It was a season finale that was anything but peaceful for Leao, who now hopes for success with Portugal at the European Championship, while waiting for developments regarding his future.
