TMW: Loan move imminent for Milan outcast as Sampdoria accelerate pursuit

By Isak Möller -

Matteo Gabbia is expected to leave AC Milan on loan this summer and Sampdoria have accelerated their pursuit. In fact, the youngster has even said yes to the idea, a report claims.

Matteo Gabbia came in handy for Stefano Pioli this past season as he had a centre-back crisis in January. The Italian, along with Pierre Kalulu, played as the centre-backs and did quite well under the circumstances (two wins and one loss, the Spezia one).

However, Gabbia made just ten appearances for Milan and ammased a mere 674 minutes. Clearly, he needs to play more to continue his growth and according to TuttoMercatoWeb, Sampdoria have now accelerated their pursuit.

Marco Giampaolo (former Milan manager) is pushing for the move and Sampdoria are ready to welcome Gabbia on loan. They just need to wait for the renewals of Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara, which should arrive this week. It remains to be seen if they will try to include a buy-out clause.

  1. Three CBs under contract and you are going to let Gabbia leave on loan? You better have a damn good plan for coverage with Kjaer coming off injury if he isn’t 100%

  2. We’ll see, if a starting level cb arrives I’d like to see Gabbia go on loan to a club like Samp. If no one is brought in there will be enough minutes at Milan for him to continue developing.
