On Friday evening, Milan announced the signing of Fikayo Tomori on loan with an option to buy from Chelsea. The defender was called up straight away for the Atalanta clash, but understandably didn’t make his debut.
The 23-year-old centre-back had made just one appearance in the league for Chelsea this season and Milan spotted an opportunity. After some tough negotiations, the Rossoneri were able to announce the signing on Friday.
In an interview with MilanTV, Tomori revealed that he was surprised by Milan’s call and also explained why he had to leave Chelsea, with this being an opportunity he couldn’t turn down. See the full video below.
“It was an opportunity that I couldn’t turn down. When I first got called I was a bit, I wouldn’t say confused, but I was a bit surprised. And then I spoke to Paolo Maldini, the best defender to ever play football and he was asking me to come. From there I knew,” he stated.
It remains to be seen when Tomori will make his debut for the club, although it most likely won’t be in the derby against Inter on Tuesday. Perhaps against Bologna on Saturday, a game that Milan are big favourites to win.
