Tonali confident regarding Leao’s future: “He’s a Milan player and wants to stay with us”

By Oliver Fisher -

Sandro Tonali has claimed that Rafael Leao is not focusing on the rumours surrounding his future and wants to stay at AC Milan.

Leao’s future continues to dominate the newspaper headlines as he is yet to extend his contract which is currently set to expire in June 2024, with talks still underway over a renewal but nothing yet agreed.

The matter is made more complicated by the fact that there are two parties to negotiate with in lawyer Ted Dimvula and agent Jorge Mendes, the salary demands will be high and there is the fine that must be paid to Sporting CP.

Nonetheless, Leao’s focus was firmly on the pitch for today’s win against Salernitana as he scored the opening goal in the 2-1 win at the Arechi. Tonali spoke to DAZN after the game, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

On Leao: “He’s always been at the centre of the project. He doesn’t think about the transfer market. He’s a Milan player and wants to stay with us, we saw it even after the goal. We just have to hold on to him and love him.”

On the target of the Scudetto: “We have to try, we want to repeat ourselves. It’s not easy to win it and then defend it, but we have to do it because we’re strong and it’s one of our goals.”

  1. Time is passing Very fast. Leaos contract is not anymore 2 years to be expired, but 1 year and 6 months…

In less than 12 months, Leao will be in situation to choose, which contract to sign. Like Skriniar now at Inter. But still, we read all the time BS:”matter is made more complicated by the fact that there are two parties to negotiate with in lawyer Ted Dimvula and agent Jorge Mendes, the salary demands will be high and there is the fine that must be paid to Sporting CP.”

Milan cannot be big club again, untill owner doesnt have eny emotional connection to it.
