Tonali explains his emotions after hard-fought win for Milan: “We do feel strong”

By Isak Möller -

Sandro Tonali was one of the key players for AC Milan in their 2-1 win against Sampdoria, battling until the end. It was a different game but a sign of strength nevertheless, as the midfielder argues.

Milan started the game well and opened the scoring through Junior Messias after six minutes. It could have been more but the scores remain 1-0 until the referee blew for half-time. Still, many expected it to be an easy win.

Just a few minutes into the second half, though, Rafael Leao was sent off and Milan were forced to work very hard. Tonali ran a lot and speaking to DAZN after the game, as cited by MilanNews, he was very happy.

On the game…

“Today’s game gives you incredible energy. It’s better to win like this, I’m happy because we gave everything on the pitch and played a great match.”

On the success…

“These are dirty games. In the second half, we had fewer precise passes than we have ever had in the last two years, but we managed to win anyway. If we manage to win in these conditions we can go a long way.”

On Pioli…

“We have a wonderful relationship. It’s the third year with him, he’s a great coach. Today we needed his help and he needed ours, we all gave each other a hand in any way we could. We didn’t play well, but we won.”

Is Milan the strongest team?

“I think it’s a balanced season. We have proved to be a difficult team to beat. We don’t feel the strongest, but we do feel strong.”

It remains to be seen if Tonali will play from start in Milan’s Champions League clash on Wednesday. He might need rest, but that can be said for every Milan player at this point due to the tight schedule.
