Tonali concedes Milan made ‘a lot of mistakes’ but insists: “We are not worried”

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan registered their second consecutive defeat this afternoon, losing 1-3 to Sassuolo. Sandro Tonali came on in the second half but couldn’t change the course of the game, mostly looking frustrated on the pitch.

The Rossoneri will indeed have a lot to work on ahead of their upcoming mid-week clash. Once again, they threw away the game by gifting the goals to the opponent, which is something that has to stop if they want to stay in the Scudetto race.

Speaking to MilanTV after the game (via MilanNews), visibly upset and irritated, Tonali shared his thoughts on the collective disaster and if the Atleti win had anything to do with the soft performance.

On the mistakes…

“It hurt us not to manage the 1-0 lead and to concede a goal after three minutes. This affected us and then we suffered the 2-1 shortly afterwards and we didn’t react. We conceded 3 goals today, we made a lot of mistakes and we can do better. ”

On the match against Genoa…

“We play immediately and you can immediately react in another match. We have to win and this is our goal.”

On the possible relaxation after the match against Atletico…

“I don’t think there has been any relaxation. We are professionals. The victory in Madrid gave us confidence and didn’t make us relax. The problem was to concede two goals in close proximity and not be able to be cynical after so many opportunities created.”

If the team is worried…

“We are not worried but it is bad to be Milan and to lose two league games in a row like this. After the first 11 league games, we have seen that there is nothing to worry about, we need to get up and go back to playing,” he stated.

Milan will face Genoa on Wednesday evening and they need to send a signal to their competitors, following two horrendous games. But it won’t be easy if they can’t snap out of the current mode they are in.
