Tuttosport: Battle between Pioli and Rangnick – Five Milan players want the current boss to stay

By Oliver Fisher -

A number of Milan players want Stefano Pioli to stay on as head coach, a report claims, despite the various links to Ralf Rangnick in the media.

According to Tuesday’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanLive), it is a battle between Pioli and Rangnick for the Rossoneri bench, with Marcelino and Luciano Spalletti in the background.

The German coach currently has the clear advantage in this race, but the situation could be changed because of the perplexities shown recently by the former RB Leipzig coach. There was an agreement made months ago, but due to economic and environmental doubts, it may not be so solid.

Therefore it cannot be ruled out that Pioli stays on into next season as the manager, especially given that a number of players wish for him to stay. This was demonstrated by the words of Samuel Castillejo yesterday, while Theo Hernandez – a player who has exploded for Milan under Pioli – is also a big advocate of his work.

Moreover, Ismael Bennacer and Ante Rebic have also become key components of the side managed by the ex-Lazio boss, and finally the word of Zlatan Ibrahimovic could be key. He probably will not renew, but if asked for an opinion, he would clearly favour Pioli with whom he developed a sincere and honest bond.
