Tuttosport: Between the field and friendship with Brahim Diaz – Castillejo wants to make a difference for Milan

By Nikita Fesyukov -

The 2019/20 season was a specific one for Italian football due to the Coronavirus pandemic. In the second half of the season, however, Stefano Pioli’s AC Milan team grew collectively as well as individually. One of the players who showed great progress was also Samu Castillejo.

As pointed out by Tuttosport (via milannews.it), the player arrived from Villarreal to serve as a backup for Suso and was often in the shadow of his compatriot. However, afterwards, he took advantage of a moment of difficulty for the latter and gained a starting spot for Pioli’s side with positive performances.

In the second part of the season, Castillejo shared the right-wing with Saelemaekers, a tactically different player who was able to give him time to recover from injury. The Spaniard also showed off well in the last friendly match, scoring a brace against Vicenza.

The Turin-based paper also noted that Milan recently completed the signing of Brahim Diaz from Real Madrid, with the player potentially taking Castillejo’s role in the squad.

Despite the possible competition, Castillejo did not show resentment but rather immediately helped his compatriot (both are also from Malaga) to settle down.

The Rossoneri number 7 has shown himself to be very attached to the project and he wants to help the club return to the Champions League by giving his contribution both on the field as a protagonist as well as off the pitch in the dressing room.
