Tuttosport: Kjaer leapfrogs Musacchio as Milan’s mercato strategy emerges

By Isak Möller -

Shortly after his arrival, Simon Kjaer managed to cement his spot in the starting eleven, leaving no room for Mateo Musacchio. Initially, he seemed destined to fill the void left by Mattia Caldara at AC Milan, but took full advantage instead.

According to today’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews.it), this has left Musacchio in a crisis, also because Stefano Pioli has opted for the young Mattia Gabbia to replace Kjaer when the latter got injured.

The indications coming from Milanello, furthermore, suggest that nothing has changed since the pre-Coronavirus period. The Argentine, in fact, continues to be behind the Danish centre-back, destined to start against Juventus on Friday evening.

Furthermore, the new pecking order can also be reflected on the market. In the summer, if Milan were to choose between Musacchio and Kjaer, they would opt for the Danish international. He would cost just €2.5m, thanks to the buy-out clause in his contract.

That said, it remains to be seen if the Rossoneri will redeem him. At the age of 31, he doesn’t exactly fit the youth project that Ralf Rangnick has planned for the club.
