GdS: Milan’s probable XI for Juventus clash – Pioli to rely on the midfielders

By Isak Möller -

On Friday evening, AC Milan will be unpredictable, or rather they will try to be this. Facing Juventus is always complicated and doing it without three key players is a bit like climbing a steep mountain.

Theo Hernandez, Samu Castillejo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic will all miss the game, which is a big blow given their importance as of late. Therefore, as highlighted by Gazzetta Dello Sport (via MilanNews.it), Stefano Pioli is studying different solutions.

The former Fiorentina boss will have to invent something to surprise Juve, or at least try. In all likelihood, he will redesign the team entirely, more or less. Maybe not with the formation as Pioli seems keen on keeping the 4-2-3-1, but for the rest.

It isn’t easy to replace someone like Ibrahimovic, making the attack the main issue. Without the Swede, Ante Rebic has a clear advantage over Rafael Leao for the role, though he will act more as a false nine.

Due to the absences of Hernandez and Castillejo, Milan could work less on the flanks and focus more on the central area. The idea is to deal with the opponents by giving them little space in the key areas, albeit allowing play on the flanks.

In short, aggression and pressing. The work of those who move between the lines, from Hakan Calhanoglu to Jack Bonaventura and Lucas Paqueta, will be decisive.
