It’s not exactly a secret that Milan are working to offload Lucas Paqueta, who has failed to impress as of late. Lyon are seemingly in pole position and they could offer an alternate solution, a report claims.
According to Tuttosport (via Milanlive.it), Lyon are willing to offer Memphis Depay to Milan. The Dutch striker’s contract will expire in 2021 and the French side don’t want to lose him for free, with a renewal out of the question.
The negotiations are still to be defined, as the newspaper continues, also because the player himself is keen on a move to Barcelona. Should the latter make a few sales, then they could present the right offer to Lyon.
However, if the transfer doesn’t materialize, then Depay could consider his options. He would become teammates with Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Milan, who is one of his idols, but the problem is his position in the 4-2-3-1 formation.
Yes, the Swede is expected to retire (or leave for elsewhere) after this season and that would free up the spot for Depay. This season, though, he would at least initially be the second choice.
That being said, Milan have other priorities and aren’t looking to dwell into the possibility, although Lyon could bring it up in the talks over Paqueta. It could be a bargain signing for the Rossoneri, but for now it remains a hypothesis.
