Tuttosport: Maldini and Massara to extend – a cluster of player renewals should follow

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s new owners RedBird Capital will focus on the renewal of Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara before turning their attention elsewhere, a report claims.

As reported today by Tuttosport (via MilanNews), Gerry Cardinale – the founder and leading man of RedBird – will make sure that Maldini and Massara put pen to paper on their new contracts and then the summer mercato can fully get going.

The official announcement that the technical and sporting directors have renewed should come next week but Maldini and Massara are still working on several fronts to strengthen the squad such as signing Botman or Bremer for the centre-back role while De Ketelaere, Zaniolo and Lang are candidates for the attack.

Once the issue of their contracts has been settled, the two executives will then get players their renewals sorted too. Rafael Leao and Ismael Bennacer are both on deals which expire in 2024 so they will be first on the agenda for an extension and a pay rise.

Defensive duo Pierre Kalulu and Fikayo Tomori are both expiring in 2025 and both should also extend with a salary increase, and the will of the Englishman is very clear and that is to remain with the Rossoneri. Finally, there will most likely also be a pay rise for Sandro Tonali too, who last year had his salary cut in order to facilitate the permanent move.
