Tuttosport: Renewals of Maldini and Massara remain unsigned – mercato blocked

By Isak Möller -

Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are only contracted until the end of the month and they are yet to sign their respective renewal. As a result, Milan’s mercato has slowed down and the situation is very puzzling.

The takeover of Gerry Cardinale’s RedBird Capital has already made life difficult for the two directors on the market. The uncertainty was the first factor, but now that the takeover has been announced a new factor has emerged.

We are, of course, talking about their expiring contracts. As per Tuttosport (via SempreMilan.it), the situation has turned into a mystery as the lack of signatures is having a big effect on Milan’s mercato. They have two-three signings in hand, but they cannot be completed as of now.

Cardinale has made it clear that he wants to continue with both Maldini and Massara but that matters little currently, with time against them on the market. Hopefully, the situation will be sorted sooner rather than later.

  1. I’ve never heard of something like this. A club is purchased basically every year, but this situation doesn’t happen. We’re in for a treat with these guys.

  2. Why should Elliott sell to this group of craps? We just won the league and we’re supposed to be the most active team in Europe in terms of signings. But what the hell is Redbird doing with our beloved team. You gotta sort things out ASAP before we the Milan faithful lose our temper. Redbird is killing the joy of winning the Scudetto with this sluggish actions. We need just 4key signings and let Mr Pioli do his job please.

  3. Elliot should have sold millan to investcorp not this useless and sluggish Redbird.. From one player to another till the transfer window closes and addition..leao will soon leave too….

  4. So, we were unhappy with Elliot… Wait and see RedBird in action. No signings so far, only rumours. And no sport management. This unfolds as a real disaster. Probably, RedBird does not have any liquid money for the moment. They are probably looking for loans that are yet to come…

  5. As expected by me. Just looking a bit at the Redbird company and what they own you can see they aren’t what news reports have given out. They don’t own any clubs that ever won anything or any of the major sport leagues, they are involved in off products of the same sport, like XFL, a knock-off NFL that cost 15M for the whole league ownership. I expected a fiasco, but not from the first month. LOL

    1. The only successful sports club they have minor ownership through Fenways sports is Liverpool, and they bought it last year. So they have about 0.0% to do with anything that happened at Liverpool since Fenway took over. LOL at everyone that wrote how they have experience. https://redbirdcap.com/companies/
