Tuttosport: Milan must make the most of Giroud – crosses and Kessie’s support

By Isak Möller -

Zlatan Ibrahimovic hasn’t fully recovered from his Achilles inflammation and will miss out on tonight’s derby between AC Milan and Inter. It’s a big blow for Stefano Pioli, although he also has Olivier Giroud at his disposal.

The Frenchman has made 20 appearances for the Rossoneri this season (all comps) and he has managed to find the back of the net six times. He also has two assists to his name, which isn’t too bad.

Out of those 20 appearances, only eleven have been from start and with that in mind, he cannot be considered as a poor signing. There is still a lot left of the season and starting with today’s game, Giroud will have many opportunities to shine.

As pointed out by Tuttosport (via MilanNews), Milan will have to send more crosses into the box as Giroud is a master with his head. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons why Franck Kessie is starting at 10, adding more physicality inside the box.

As we saw against Genoa in the Coppa Italia, it only takes one good cross for Giroud to score. The full-backs and the wingers will have to keep this in mind on the pitch tonight.
