Tuttosport: Milan plan to increase Italian quota – the targets from Frattesi to Beltran

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are aiming to increase the number of Italian players in the squad ahead of next season, with a number of targets on the list.

As this morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews) writes, at the moment there are only Calabria, Tonali, Mirante, Gabbia, Florenzi and Pobega in the current squad who are home-grown or came through the Milan academy.

The first Azzurri signing has already been closed, namely goalkeeper Marco Sportiello who will arrive on a free transfer from Atalanta to become the new deputy to Mike Maignan, which helps towards the UEFA and Serie A squad list requirements.

There are a number of targets that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara like though, starting with Davide Frattesi of Sassuolo, even if at the moment his asking price seems to be out of reach.

The names of Tommaso Baldanzi and Nicolò Zaniolo remain on the list for the attack. The former has exploded this season with Empoli and is currently engaged in the U20 World Cup, while the latter – who plays for Galatasaray – has been sought for some time.

For the centre-forward role the idea of Gianluca Scamacca of West Ham is still alive but the latest name is Lucas Beltran of River Plate, who has an Italian passport.

Stephan El Shaarawy is another name in Milan’s orbit. His priority is a renewal with Roma, but without an offer from the Giallorossi (which for now hasn’t arrived) he will also evaluate the idea of a return to Milan.

    1. Frattesi is NOT mediocre. He has 7 goals from midfield for the 13th place team in Serie A. That would make him our 3rd highest scorer behind Leao and Giroud. He is excellent and getting better each season. I wish we’d get him.

  1. Yeah, let’s increase the Italian quota when Italian football and Italian players are the worst they’ve ever been.

  2. Frattesi > Krunic/Pobega/Vranckx/Bakayoko

    Baldanzi and Zaniolo > Messias/Saelemaekers/Rebic

Scamacca and Beltran > Origi/ancient Zlatan

I fail to see why anyone would have negative comment on this article.
