Tuttosport: Theo and Leao ‘redeem themselves’ just in time for Liverpool and Inter clashes

Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao responded to the criticism with a very strong performance against Venezia last night. While the opponents were far from the best, the duo still showed their best side as highlighted by a report this morning.

Hernandez and Leao are the ones who have been criticised the most at the start of this season. As the stars of the team, everyone was expecting more and the criticism was largely justified. Yesterday, however, the two responded in the best way possible.

As highlighted by today’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews), Hernandez and Leao kickstarted the goal fest against Venezia with the Frenchman’s goal after less than two minutes. A classic combination between the two, even if the goalkeeper perhaps should have done better.

This, in addition to their attitudes throughout the game, helped them ‘redeem themselves’ ahead of what will be a very difficult week. Liverpool are up first in the Champions League and then, at the weekend, Milan will face Inter in the Derby della Madonnina.

By making the same impact we saw yesterday in the big games, or perhaps even more, Hernandez and Leao will truly showcase themselves as leaders of this Milan side. Of course, this is what everyone is hoping for as well.

  1. Master move from Fonseca. Turning Milan’s best players into Milan’s best players.

Seriously, good first win against a Serie B level team to get some relief from all the media drama for at least a few days. Now let’s see if this team can compete with top teams.

  2. Good result, I didn’t see the game due to TNT sports showing other rubbish instead. I don’t think it tells us much though, it certainly doesnt mean the corner is turned. The next few games will tell us that.

  3. Theo and Leao certainly showed they weren’t out of shape, or having fitness issue,…
There is certainly nothing to pick against their yesterday’s performance (although Leao should work on his finishing) since it was terrific from both of them. I (and I suppose most of the fans) just expect to see a performance like that on a more consistent manner.

  4. Although against one of the weakest teams this season, a win is a win and 3 points collected is all that matters.

Finally players in their more natural positions, Gabbia-Pavlovic pairing made me feel more comfortable and I like what I saw from Abraham – he was everywhere, helping in defense and linked well up front.

Emerson is just Emerson, he did better but nothing worth pointing up. I’d rather see Calabria against Liverpool and Inter. He’s more used to games of such magnitude and usually delivers.

Still, the real test is yet to come and result aside, I just hope for a positive performance and attitude from the lads. Defensively we’re still weak.

  5. It’s like Ted, Drew and B synchronized their answers on this post. hahaha I was wondering why y’all hadn’t chimed in yesterday …

“Good Win, But…” Nice Work, Boys …

    1. It doesn’t prove or disprove anything mate, the next few games are the tell, not Venezia..You can’t just jump on the bandwagon following a 4-0 win over a newly promoted side…if you think everything is back on track then I’d prep yourself…or have the standards among Milan fans fallen so much that last night is now the epitome of our expectation.

Let’s see, hopefully it’s the catalyst

    2. Haha I thought the same after your collective shoutout!

I can only speak for myself but I’ll need more to be excited by this team, I have higher expectations. Venezia… Many people here said that Milan would probably win comfortably, which would generate some false hype. Some here are real prophets.

    3. Despite the win, there is always room for b*tching and moaning. Especially regarding the management. And owners. And Zlatan. You know the drill.

    4. I see you calling me out for the second day in a row. I said, a much needed win and 3 points in the pocket is all that matters. What problem do you have with this comment? Your insecurity is taking the better of you man.

And it was a relegation team they beat, what’s the hype about? Let’s wait until these next two crucial games are behind and then you can do all the salto mortales you like.

  6. There’s a lot of positives, a goal for Tammy, Rafa and Theo look fired up,But they need to take that to the big boys, Liverpool, inter and Madrid. I always love watching Gabbia play, he’s a proper defender. Pulisic continues to be Mr reliable..now we need consistency and gradual increase. I have hope against Liverpool as we can naturally counter to them. We have to out ina good show and not get smashed. Plus….the derby is becoming more and more important every season
