Tuttosport: First Udinese culprit receives life ban – decision on Curva due today

By Oliver Fisher -

The first culprit of the racial insults hurled at Mike Maignan during AC Milan’s 3-2 win over Udinese on Saturday night has been identified and banned, a report claims.

Tuttosport (via MilanNews) writes this morning that thanks to the work of the Udine Prosecutor’s Office in partnership with Udinese, the videos of the various cameras at the Bluenergy Stadium were made available and the first racist fan was found.

The ‘supporter’ picked out thanks to the investigations and video from the cameras is a 46-year-old man already known to the police. The man was incriminated by a video circulating on social media in which he can be heard insulting the Milan goalkeeper 12 times.

The work done in a few hours by the Prosecutor’s Office and Udinese with the stadium cameras has borne fruit but the investigations do not stop here.

On the contrary they will now try and find more culprits, while the man identified was given a five-year stadium ban from the authorities which Udinese, through a statement last night, transformed into a lifetime ban.

Today, however, the decision of the Sporting Judge Dr. Mastrandrea will arrive. He was provided with all the relevant information and depositions in the last few hours: those of Mike Maignan, questioned at the end of the match by federal investigators present in Udine, and men from the FIGC.

The Rossoneri goalkeeper speaks of around ten culprits, the federal investigators have narrowed it down to three or four people , while the Police Headquarters speaks of forty or fifty.

In any case it does not appear that the Judge has the elements to arrange for the closure of the Udinese Curva. According to the regulations a significant percentage of guilty parties is needed compared to the total to ensure that an entire sector is closed.

It does not appear that those conditions exist at present but the Judge could decide to request additional investigations, as happened to Cagliari after the Romelu Lukaku incident in 2019.

  1. You see, this is soft. Need to ban them for a few games with a warning that it will double next time then they fix it inside of the group.

We all know that in that part of the stadium, everyone knows everyone.

    1. They insult those players too, just quietly amongst each other, so as not to affect their game. Bigots are bigots first and football fans second.
