Towards the end of the summer mercato, Milan tried to bring in a centre-back to solve what was a mini-crisis. They failed, in the end, and the Rossoneri were lucky to get through the period with just two centre-backs.
One of the names linked with the club was Mohamed Simakan, the 20-year-old Strasbourg defender. In an interview with Telefoot (see video below), Paolo Maldini confirmed that the Rossoneri did have talks with the player’s agents.
“We spoke with Simakan’s agents in the previous months and also the player himself. I must say that we also spoke with other Ligue 1 players. What we see in the French league is that, not being very tactical, players develop a lot of skill in one-on-one, both in attack and in defence,” he stated.
