Udinese came away with all three points from San Siro last night as they converted a penalty in the second half against AC Milan. A penalty that the Friuli side shouldn’t have been awarded, as per multiple experts.
In the 60th minute of the game, Yacine Adli committed the foul on Festy Ebosele and Juan Luca Sacchi hesitated slightly before pointing to the spot. The replays immediately confirmed that there wasn’t a huge contact, but VAR didn’t intervene in the end.
As per Gazzetta dello Sport this morning (via SempreMilan), VAR referee Eugenio Abbattista made a big mistake by not sending Sacchi to the screen. There is a slight touch on Ebosele, but it’s indeed minimal and it shouldn’t be enough for a penalty.
Errori Arbitrali added that the situation has left us with ‘many doubts’, as it’s more of a slight touch than a clear stomp on the foot. DAZN’s refereeing pundit Luca Marelli (via MilanNews) concurred with these opinions, stating that it never should have been called.
🟥 Onestamente più lo vedo e più non mi sembra ci sia il pestone. Molti dubbi sul rigore dato all’#Udinese.

Molti dubbi qui a mio avviso. pic.twitter.com/thVRZZnRPA— Denis Errori Arbitrali (@erroriarbitrali) November 4, 2023
Who the hell cares. We lost because we deserved to lose. We should be demolishing team like Udine, but we instead can’t find the net.
We lost before game even started. Embarrassing.
We at least deserve a “participation” trophy. No identity, no cohesiveness, every match different players, different formations , I understand injuries, fatigue, however you would be surprised how everybody quickly recovers after a convincing win.
Every slight touch in PK is a pen nowadays. Eslpecially whet it’s a “stomp”. Probably 90% of fans dont like it but that’s how it is today. Football is soft and this call is consistent with this trend. It would have been given as a PK most of the times in any other match.
Of course it wasn’t a penalty but we’re not allowed to talk about “excuses” on here.
Talk about whatever you want; all the goal did was compound the already very present misery. If it had finished 0-0 we would still have looked completely flat, still played 90 mins without a clear plan, and still had a bunch of players looking utterly bemused.
I don’t think these are the images you want to show that’s NOT in favour of the penalty😂😂😂. The one video especially by Faina shows the opponent got clipped at the top of his boot in the super slow mo. Dude got fouled, let’s move on. If it was the other way around we’d be aggrieved
PK or not, Milan still played like a bunch of school girls. 442 was a joke. pioli needs to stick to the one trick he knows – 4231
Even though I think it’s a harsh pk, it doesn’t matter. We couldn’t score! Another tactical masterpiece by Pioli.
This article just confirms that var wouldn’t overturn the call…..misleading title.
harsh or not, that we would make a play like that in the box is deserving of a pk…
